I enjoy speaking to non-scientists about sharks, and have presented at numerous schools, college campuses, board rooms, house parties, clubs, pubs, a commencement ceremony, a TEDx conference, and the U.S. Senate.

Regardless of the venue, I take pride in crafting audience-specific presentations that keep people intrigued and awake.

In recent years I’ve been using this fascinating shark content as a vehicle for a bigger message on the scientific method and the importance of scientific literacy. Despite having access to more information than at any other time in history, we see the failure of critical thinking and scientific reasoning in our public discourse every day.

Regardless of whether you want a career in science, understanding how the scientific method works and why research findings are more credible than the “hot takes” of pundits and politicians is crucial to our survival as a species.
